You Gotta Be Careful
Introduction

Hello and welcome to the next article on my website. This article is all about banks, but more precisely, about the people within them. So it is not for all types of audiences, but specifically for those who are dealing with international relations (like me), correspondent banking, and business partnerships.

In this article, we are gonna discuss some ‘’tricks’’ that people within companies use to achieve their desired outcomes. And believe me, sometimes their actions go against their company policy, but as I see in practice, they couldn’t care less. So hold on tight, it will be interesting.

Type #1: I Know Everything

Imagine you get a task to reach out to a bank and open a correspondent account. You text a colleague from this bank. The bank employee and/or relationship manager replies: ‘’We don’t serve this type of client since it’s against our compliance policy.’’ In some cases, they say this from the heart, meaning they genuinely mean what they say. But in other cases, they blindly lie because they are too lazy to forward your message and/or profile to their compliance team for a check.

The second one is dangerous because it can leave you out. To avoid this, make sure you do two things: confirm it directly with the head of the department you reached out to, plus text the compliance managers themselves. They will never lie because it is their job to make sure the company is in line with the laws.

Type #2: I Can’t See

There are some people within banks that ignore you like they ignore the air. You say, how? What do you mean by that? Air is something you cannot live without, but at the same time, it is something you don’t think much about. Clients are something any company cannot live without, but at the same time, some people don’t think about them.

They ignore you, don’t reply to your messages simply because ‘’they don’t like you’’ or anything similar to that. You are eligible to be a proper client, but they go silent. You resolve it only by ensuring one thing: reporting to senior management. Text directors, etc., say what you need to say. They will make sure such people ‘’wake up’’.

Type #3: Did Not Receive

But tricks don’t end with just ignoring. Some people anti-ignore. Do you know what anti-ignoring in banking is? It’s when an employee replies to you but says they did not receive a specific email from a specific date.

Imagine this: you sent an email to become a client, they replied and said okay. They asked you about the docs. You send the docs and follow up in a day or two. They reply and say they did not receive the email. Sometimes it is true, but sometimes it is not.

Anti-ignoring happens just to eliminate you from the list because you are annoying. But there is no such thing as an ‘’annoying client’’ if people make money from you.

How to resolve it: send it via other channels, tag their management, explain the situation, ask for additional channels, or ask for the website link where you can upload the docs.

You Better Be Careful
Type #4: I Am Busy

Some ‘’important’’ people in a particular bank are super busy. They are so busy that the word busy in front of them is more free than they are at this point.

Okay, if you are busy, is there anyone who can talk to us? No, it turns out he is our hero.

If that ever happens, try to find someone else within the company. If you can’t, it’s better to respect yourself and your company and not make yourself a laughing stock in front of others. Following up too much makes you worthless. You are also a company and you have money, you are not begging anyone. The Earth is too vast to focus on one option.

Conclusion

Often, when you are getting ignored and neglected as a representative of your company, it feels bad. But remember not to strain yourself too much emotionally. Take it as it is, but just be aware that such people specified above exist.

See you in the next article on my website. Thank you.
